Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg is a regional leader in health care for southeast Kansas. Their comprehensive Cancer Center was among the first in the region and is fully certified by the American College of Surgeons. The Via Christi Heart Center features a state-of-the-art catheterization lab and is supported by our newly renovated $2.6 million Cardiac Stepdown Unit. The Emergency Room is recognized as a Level III Trauma Center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.Their specialty service line is extensive and includes Orthopedics, Diagnostics, Surgery, Physical Therapy and Occupational Health.

The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is a federally qualified patient-centered health center dedicated to providing quality health care to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Originally opened by Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center (now Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg) as an extension of its mission, it is now a patient-owned and operated organization serving more than 20,000 children and adults annually.
The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas employs more than 200 professionals and support staff at six clinic sites in Crawford, Cherokee, Montgomery and Allen counties. The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors which includes patients and community representatives.
Medicare, Medicaid, HealthWave and private insurance are accepted. No-one is refused care due to inability to pay.
Girard Medical Center was recognized by the Kansas Foundation for Medical Care (KFMC) as one of the Kansas Critical Access Hospitals leading the way in best practices when inpatient quality reporting (IQR) is compared. By incorporating the best-practice medicine and empowering the patient to be part of that care, KFMC stated “Girard Medical Center is leading the way and sharing successful strategies with other facilities within the state. Thus, improving care for all Kansans.”
Girard Medical Center is a general medical and surgical hospital in Girard, KS, with 35 beds. Survey data for the latest year available shows that 5,033 patients visited the hospital's emergency room. The hospital had a total of 1,205 admissions. Its physicians performed 136 inpatient and 731 outpatient surgeries.
The Pittsburg area has several privately-owned nursing homes and assisted living complexes. These facilities provide a range of services, including intermediate and skilled nursing care and care for the mentally and physically challenged. A variety of hospice care services are available to provide health care for the terminally ill.
The Crawford County Mental Health Center, in partnership with other agencies, coordinates general health and welfare services and substance abuse treatment for area residents. Several locally-owned chiropractic offices offer nutritional therapy, acupuncture, reflexology, rehabilitation and massage therapy.
